In addition to supporting and furthering the mission of Sycamore Elementary School, it is the mission of the Lion's Lair Library staff to install a passion for reading, inquiry, responsible use of technology, and research within each of our students. We hope to encourage every child to become successful life long learners. In order to achieve this, the library media center will support the classroom experience and promote student achievement through access to the library collection and assistance in locating and using appropriate technologies and resources.

Our town library is the BEST! There are many FREE resources available for Collierville citizens and all you have to have is a Collierville library card to have access! The library has an outstanding collection of books as well as online resources.

TumbleBook of the Day is another wonderful free resource. One high quality fiction or nonfiction picture book is featured daily. TumbleBooks read the book to your child or you may mute the sound and read the book with your child!

6th Annual Battle of the Books
Collierville Schools Battle of the Books, BOB, is a reading book club program for students in 5thgrade. Students read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read. The battles are similar to the competitions on the TV game show, Family Feud.
Students that become part of the SyCamore BOB Team must read all 10 books on the list. The books are chosen from the Tennessee Volunteer Book Award list and represent the “Best of the Best,) for the 2019-2020 school year. The team will meet at school to discuss books and prepare for the competition. The Battle of the Books Competition will be held in March 2020, at a location to be determined at a later date. Team meeting dates and times will be announced when membership is finalized in the fall. All rising 5thgrade students received a “BOB” brochure that was sent home in May.

Sycamore Lion's Lair Library Policies
Be kind to each other and the books!
We love our "Lion Readers" at SyCamore! To be fair to all our readers, we do have some policies we expect all our students to follow.
1. Library books are always due back on the student library day.
2. When taking books home, please keep them in the backpack when not reading them. If they are stored in the backpack, they are always in school on library day and can be returned on time.
3. No books will be checked out on library day if ALL checked out books are not returned.
4. Damages to books and lost books must be paid for before checking out any more books.
5. When coming to Open Circulation (every morning from 8:45-9:00), students must check in with their teacher first and bring the class Open Circulation Pass with them to the library..
6. Enjoy your books!
Meet the Librarians
I'm Mrs. Lynn Rushdi and I have been the librarian at SyCamore Elementary for 14 years. In my pre-library life, I taught for 22 years in Northern Virginia and substitute taught in Shelby County for eight years. Finding the "perfect book" for each child is my goal! I absolutely love being a part of the SyCamore Family!

My name is Mrs. Jennifer Ochoada and I'm the library assistant in the Lion's Lair Library at SyCamore Elementary. Prior to becoming a SyCamore Lion, I worked as an interventionist at an elementary school in Indiana. I'm so blessed to be able to spend my days here at SyCamore sharing my love for reading with an incredible group of kids!
